Imagine being born in a world where just by being alive you already have a strike against you. This strike is attached to you forever and there is literally nothing you can do about it. You did nothing wrong, you did not hurt anyone, you just exist.

Growing up my parents and grandparents wanted to shield me from some of the experiences they went through – and rightfully so. Each generation should want better for the future generations.

Ok, so the honeymoon phase is over. In fact, the entire relationship is over. Literally from one day to the next you become a single person navigating the dating world in 2020. I’ve found that if we do not learn the lesson the universe is teaching, we are destined to continue the same patterns and behaviors.

When I went through my most recent separation, I conducted an “Exit Interview” with my partner.

When I was a child, I remember the thrill of doing things that were scary. Somewhere down the line I lost that thrill. I stopped doing things I might have wanted to do because it was scary – or if I’m being honest – was going to take too much work.

What I later realized is that the fear of doing this scared, partnered with procrastination robbed me of personal growth and other potential opportunities.

It wasn’t until I leaned into living an authentic life that I was able to journey with myself, for myself. I realized that my story was just that – mine. And it was mind to tell. I realized that if I felt like this, surely there were others that felt the same way. Hell, growing up I didn’t know what the example was. The variations between my mom’s side of the family and my dad’s side of the family were like night and day. (Or so I thought at the time. Some folks are just good at keeping their business, their business)

It boggles my mind to have such a good relationship with my dad now knowing that when I was growing up he scared the crap out of me.
